Sven comes from the East Side of Berlin, or as he likes to say, from a country (the former DDR) which does not exist anymore. This gives him the opportunity to be a “no land’s man”, free of borders and nationalistic sentiments.
Growing up, he learned to sell his own handicrafts: from his mum's tights and screen printed T-shirts to self-recorded tapes and beanies made from the legs of jogging pants. Later on, he founded a label of hardcore music called Yellow Dog, which since 1995 continues to produce this kind of “bad” music. Before brewing, he worked as a machinist at power stations. Along the way he installed trade fairs, learned how to professionally care for the ill, developed web pages and graduated as a media designer. Why so many professions? He’s just the eager to learn new things.
His last step, in 2006, was to found a microbrewery in Berlin: Hops & Barley. His partner developed the beer and Sven took care of the bar, marketing, and events. Their microbrewery became popular both among locals as well as visitors to Berlin. This gave him the possibility to get to know many people, including many beer brewers from all over the world.
His curiosity about beer grew through all of these experiences and he began brewing at home. Now he is in the middle of his new dream: creating his own beers at his microbrewery in El Molinar, a wonderful neighbourhood in Palma de Mallorca, and offering it to the visitors of the brewery and to whoever finds “Forasteras” in themselves and in the taps!
